One week ta’go!

What. A. Week!!!   At first it started off a bit shaky.  There must have been a full moon, a shift in the cosmos. or the kids must have been dipping into the Halloween Candy when no one was looking.  Things just didn’t seem to be falling together.  But that was Monday.  As the week progressed everything just got better and better!  Notes, rhythms, harmonies, and overall sound just started to pop… in a good way! If you could have only seen your kids working this week!  We are so proud of their progress and can’t wait to let you in on the gift they have been preparing for you.  Each choir is nearing full memorization, and every vocal part is holding it’s own.  Mrs. Stump (our favorite accompanist) will be joining us next week to help us put the finishing touches on the show.  CAN’T WAIT FOR SATURDAY!!!!

Thursday we had a wonderful party after school with our 7th grade choir kids.  We had about 85 students join us.  They all dressed up in some pretty “interesting” costumes.  We all played photo scavenger hunt.  Some pretty zany pics were submitted.  I’ll share a few at the bottom of this post.  Pizza, brownies, and tooooo much pop were had by all.  🙂  It was a great party.  We sure love our kids! Thanks for playing taxi so that we could be with them.

A few items regarding SwingFry….

If you missed the parent letter we sent out this week, you will find it on the previous post.  It includes the times and locations for dress rehearsal and concert day.

Thank you to those of you who sent in bake sale donation slips.  The SwingFry Committee seems to be very short in the “Pie, Sheet Cake, and Breads” Department.  If you haven’t gotten a chance to submit a donation, you can just email me armingtonj@mcsin-k12.org  and put Pie in the subject line.  Jot me a note about what you will be bringing and I will pass it on to our hardworking committee.  Just a reminder:  You can drop off your bake sale goods to the high school on Friday, Nov. 9 from 3 – 7 or Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 – 2 p.m,

If you ordered tickets, you should be getting them soon.  We have been passing them out all week when the High School sends them to us.  I believe we only have one batch left.  They should be distributed on Monday!  Again, if you didn’t get a chance to order tickets in advance you can get them on Saturday.  Don’t worry about it!

And now, we are happy to announce our TOP CHOIR BEASTS for this week.  These kids stood out as leaders, helpers, and students who are working to give their very best.  Great job kids!

6th Grade: Abigail Miller, Dominic DeHaven, Kendall Miller

7th Grade: Juliahna Smith, Owen Leisure, Abbigail Hunt

8th Grade:  Rafael Garcia, Samantha Wiley, Ashlee Jackson

Choir Weekly wrap-up!

Meme-Choir-Michael-Scott-Facebook-1-300x251

Another great week for us in the Choir Department!  Kids are really hitting all cylinders now.  They are excited for their first show and so are we!

Three weeks from tomorrow is our SWINGFEST FALL FUNDRAISER!  To those of you who are new to the “Choir Scene” we want to encourage you to find the concert attire as soon as you can.  Every year our parents seem to buy out every store’s collection of black and whites! If you wait to the last minute to purchase a black skirt and white long sleeved dress shirt (with collar!) you may find yourself in a pickle! 7th and 8th grade parents often donate last year’s outfits because their kids grow like weeds.  (Now accepting donations! Shoes, Shirts, Skirts, Pants) If you can’t afford a skirt/shirt etc, have your child check with us.  We may have one that fits them! Again, please don’t wait until the last minute. 🙂

The Bake Sale Committee still needs your contributions.  We received a few more after last weeks plea but we were expecting quite a few more slips.  Please review the last post to see what items are still needed.  Thanks again for your generosity.

Finally, please be aware that the last day to get advanced SwingFry Dinner and/or Show tickets will be this Wednesday.  Please send in your order form (copies under parent tab) along with payment.  Tickets are available on show day, but there are long lines and I believe they go up a $1.

Now for the best news!  Here are some pretty awesome kids who were are top Choir Beasts for this week!

6th:  Colin Mack, Korinna Whitley, Lillia Schlabach

7th:  Kenya Gilyard, Catrina Gerwells-Simons, Jovi Martin

8th Diamond Castillejo, Kalli Kauffman, Thane Stutsman

Emergency! Please read re: Just The Guys tonight!!!

26DE4316-2E3C-4D56-A1D8-F064DA712F53I apologize profusely for this last minute time change.  All of my advertising has stated that the concert begins at 7:00.  But the high school advertising stated 7:30 p.m. as the start time and I never caught it.  So, the drop off timer remains the same with rehearsal beginning at 5:30 p.m.  But the concert doors will not open until 7:10.  The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.    I am so sorry for any disruption this has caused you and your family!!

Friday Wrap Up!

Lots of reminders and tidbits this weekend.  So, fasten your seat belt!

dg

Let’s start with the Just The Guys Concert on Monday, October 15!  That’s this Monday! Don’t miss it!  Doors will open for the audience at 6:45 p.m.  The show is short and sweet, and FREE!

Reminders for our guys:

  • Come dressed for the show in your black pants, white dress shirt, dark shoes and socks.  Wear a t-shirt over your white shirt so that you don’t get pizza all over it!!
  • Be dropped off around 5:20 p.m. at NHS (not the middle school!!).  Go in Door 15 which is located in the back of the high school in the pool parking lot.  We will BEGIN rehearsal promptly at 5 p.m.  Don’t be late!
  • The show should last about 30 minutes.

Now, some SwingFry information.

  • Dinner/Show Ticket Orders are due by Oct. 23rd.  If you don’t get your tickets now, you will have to wait in long lines on show day.
  • We received a request from the Bake Sale Committee:  Many of you have volunteered to contribute to the bake sale, but we need more of you to do so.  If you haven’t sent in your bake sale slip yet, you can download one off of this website by going to the Parent tab on this page. They asked us to pass this on….”We DON’T need any more cookies, brownies, muffins, or sweet breads.  However, we DO need a lot more pies, sheet cakes, cakes, candies, and regular home made breads. Parents remember you can ask grandparents, neighbors, etc. to donate homemade or store bought baked items in these areas, any help would be so appreciated.
  • SWINGFRY CONFLICT FORMS ARE DUE:  Friday, October 19th.  If your choir student is unable to attend the graded Dress Rehearsal / Performance please check the Choir Handbook for the options they have to make up the grade.  The conflict form needs to be submitted to us by the 19th in order to receive a make up assignment for missing the rehearsal/show.  Conflict Forms can be found in the choir room, or under the Parent Tab on this page.

This week in choir….

  • The kids are reallllllly starting to put their parts together.  We are starting to hear some pretty great sound from them.  They are getting excited for SwingFry and so are we!
  • We took a test on note values, tie and slur articulations, solfege, and counting rhythms.  The scores look great!
