Thank you parents for coming to the Green Carpet Gala Meeting at NHS last night.  We were able to cover a lot of issues that we are facing right now.  Doing it face to face is so much more valuable than trying to communicate through letters, and notes on the internet!  We appreciate all of you very much.

We will be sending home a packet of information in case you missed it!  Hopefully you will see it by Friday.  Topics covered were:

  • Concerts
  • Choir Activities outside of class:  rollerskating, movie/pizza, lock in
  • Volunteer coorespondence
  • Choir Fees
  • The SpringFry Fall Fundraiser for all choir students
  • Show Choir
  • The Choir Handbook, where to find it, and what is in it.
  • Feeding the 400 for Christmas and Final Blast Dinners

Thanks again, and we will be in touch soon!  Mrs. A

We Need Help

Rope

Parents we need help. We currently have an extreme chaperone need for our final blast concerts. At the moment we only have a total of 8 chaperones to help our kids on Saturday, with 5 of those being for the 4PM show and only 3 for the 7PM show. We are scrambling to figure out a way to work with what we have with the current “best plan” being that the 8th Grade students sit out in the audience until it is their time to perform. We are not very keen on this plan and are desperately asking for several willing parents (especially 7th and 8th grade parents) to help us help our kids have the best performance possible.  Currently we would love to have/need to have 2 – 6th grade chaperones, 2 7th grade chaperones, and 3 – 8th grade chaperones for the 4PM show, and 3 – 6th, 3 – 7th, and 4 – 8th for the 7PM show. If you and/or family members are available to help us in this way please send me an email: norwoodc@mcsin-k12.org, or Mrs. Armington: armingtonj@mcsin-k12.org, or sign up directly on the signup genius website (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c44ada82baafe3-last ).

Sincerely (pleadingly?),                                                                                                                                           Mr. Norwoodpleading

Few Reminders coming your way….

82671

Hi Choir Parents!  This is just a quick note to remind you of a few things.  We will be sending home a “Show Week” information letter with all of the particulars for May 8-13th next week!

  • First reminder is a big one!  We need the $6 t shirt money TOMORROW (Friday, April 21) so that we can pay our bill!
  • Many of you have volunteered to send in money donations for the Concert Day Dinner.  We need that by next Friday please.  Subway meals have been ordered for all of our kids.  Thanks for helping each child have a meal on their big concert day!
  • Our phone moms will be giving our parent volunteers a reminder call this weekend with details they will need for their job.
  • Mr. Norwood and I know that chaperoning isn’t the easiest volunteer position but it is the one that assures the safety of our children.  This concert has the easiest chaperone duty because the entire last half of the show all of our kids are on stage and chaperones can sit in the audience and watch!  Right now we have minimal coverage during the concert.  Here are the areas of great concern.  If you can help fill a slot please sign up on on the choir website nmschoir.org (signupgenius)  or send us an email!  *Chaperones also get to free tickets!
4 p.m. show:  We need 2 6th grade, 2 7th grade, and 3 8th grade chaperones.  Right now we have 5 people watching the 400 children. 😦
7 p.m. show:  We need 2 6th grade chaperones, 2 7th grade. and 4 8th grade chaperones.  Right now we have 4 people watching the 400 children.  😦
We also do not have any 8th grade photographers for either show.   And the 7th graders in period 1 have no parents making locker decorations for them.
Finally, we wanted to let you know that Concert tickets will go on sale Monday, May 8th in each choir class.  Tickets are $2.
That’s all for now!  Thanks much!  Mrs. Armington

Sometimes you just have to know that it’s time to ask for some help!

Parents we have been waiting for volunteer positions to be filled as we draw near to performances but we are now two weeks away from ISSMA Contest and are still short in the following areas:

Bus Chaperones – You travel along with the kids from NMS to GMS and take attendance on the buses.    We need 5 more for 6th grade choir, 3 more for 7th grade choir, and 2 more for 8th grade choir.

Photographer– Someone to take pictures for the 8th grade ISSMA performance.

Locker Decorations – Make decorations for choir student’s locker to pep them up for contest week.  We have no one for 7th grade period 1.  We have no one for 8th grade period 6 or period 7.

If you are able to cover one of the positions above would you please sign up in the slots available on signup genius?  If you can’t use sign up genius feel free to send me an email or give me a call.

Thanks,

Mrs. Armington   armingtonj@mcsin-k12.org  (822-5186)

Congratulations ISSMA Soloists and Ensemble!!!

Wow!! What a talented group of performers our students are! They really came prepared and ready to perform yesterday!   They brought home 20 Gold medals for vocal solos (including a Gold Rating in Division I by Meredith Dorbin). Our 7th Grade Ensemble received a perfect score for their performance on the Fairfield stage and brought 19 more gold medals home!  We couldn’t be more proud of the amazing job they all did! Here are a few pictures Mr. Norwood was able to snap throughout the day. Great job you fantastic choir beasts!!

(*Parents of ISSMA performers if you have any pictures that you want to send our way we would love to include them in the slideshow!)

Letter from Two of Our Choir Parents

letter

Choir Parents, here is a letter from two of our NMS Choir parents to all of you!  -Mrs. A & Mr. N

Parents,

With such a strong choir program, you may have noticed we have quite a few students in choir. This presents a challenge in managing the flow of traffic on concert nights. While the teachers are busy directing the students on stage, chaperoning the students in a tight space is a daunting task.

This year, we would like to try some structured activities during the down time between performances for our 7th and 8th grade choirs. Our goal is to make the overall experience fun and enjoyable for all the students. We have planned a few activities–minute to win it, guess the song, weird human tricks–to help the time pass and hopefully maintain a sense of fun while reducing stress.

If you are interested in joining our brave team of volunteers, please join us. We are particularly interested in having a few dads who would enjoy mixing it with our weird and whacky middle school students. You can sign up for just one shift. If 6th grade parents want to lead similar activities, contact us. We would love to collaborate. Josi’s cell (503-888-5674) or thedehavens@gmail.com.

This is our time to show our kids and our school that “we are IN” to make their experience great!
