Congratulations ISSMA Soloists and Ensemble!!!

Wow!! What a talented group of performers our students are! They really came prepared and ready to perform yesterday!   They brought home 20 Gold medals for vocal solos (including a Gold Rating in Division I by Meredith Dorbin). Our 7th Grade Ensemble received a perfect score for their performance on the Fairfield stage and brought 19 more gold medals home!  We couldn’t be more proud of the amazing job they all did! Here are a few pictures Mr. Norwood was able to snap throughout the day. Great job you fantastic choir beasts!!

(*Parents of ISSMA performers if you have any pictures that you want to send our way we would love to include them in the slideshow!)

Letter from Two of Our Choir Parents

letter

Choir Parents, here is a letter from two of our NMS Choir parents to all of you!  -Mrs. A & Mr. N

Parents,

With such a strong choir program, you may have noticed we have quite a few students in choir. This presents a challenge in managing the flow of traffic on concert nights. While the teachers are busy directing the students on stage, chaperoning the students in a tight space is a daunting task.

This year, we would like to try some structured activities during the down time between performances for our 7th and 8th grade choirs. Our goal is to make the overall experience fun and enjoyable for all the students. We have planned a few activities–minute to win it, guess the song, weird human tricks–to help the time pass and hopefully maintain a sense of fun while reducing stress.

If you are interested in joining our brave team of volunteers, please join us. We are particularly interested in having a few dads who would enjoy mixing it with our weird and whacky middle school students. You can sign up for just one shift. If 6th grade parents want to lead similar activities, contact us. We would love to collaborate. Josi’s cell (503-888-5674) or thedehavens@gmail.com.

This is our time to show our kids and our school that “we are IN” to make their experience great!

From the HS Directors – A SwingFry Update for All Choir Parents

note-from-director-2     Hello everyone! We are still in need of volunteers for the Swing Fry on November 5th. Without the parents and friends of the choirs help, we can not run the Swing Fry as well as it needs to be run. If you have already signed up, thank you. If you have not, please sign up for a shift or two, share the link with your parents, neighbors and friends. This is an easy 2 hour shift on a Saturday that is a TON of fun!!! Not only is this a great time to support the choirs, but it is one of our largest fundraisers of the year! If we did not have Swing Fry, everyone’s Choir Fees would have to go up AT LEAST $65.25. So please sign up below today!!!

Are you good at baking or good at picking out great baked goods at Martins or Essenhaus! Well we have a perfect time to use your skills at Swing Fry. Below is the sign-up for the Bake Sale. Right now we have enough dessert to feed the visitors but not to sell any for our famous Bake Sale. Please take some time and go on the sign-up to see what you can donate this year. Please scroll down the list as there are a LOT of different options for you.

Cross-Eyed Sailor Sol….Quartet

66946

The problem with having so many talented students in our choirs is it becomes even more difficult during solo auditions to choose just one.:( And so we made it a quartet because I couldn’t choose just one. Congratulations to Josiah Cross, Caden Mack, Drew Stahly, and Noah Sties who will be our singing of the woes of a slightly-off vision seafarer in our combined number “The Ballad of the Cross-Eyed Sailor”. Hope to see you all there Monday evening! It’s going to be fantastic!!

We apologize….

I am hoping you didn’t see the fine print in the last post….I was trying to be funny with a picture of a cute little bird on a scared girls head.  I never learn.  I didn’t see the little writing at the bottom of the picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I am so embarrassed!    Either you are laughing at me right now… or mortified.  Chalk this one up to negligent proof reading.  Mrs. Aimages2

you are scaring us….

scary-birdParents!  Those empty volunteer positions we listed below are still empty.  Yikes.  We can’t do concerts without chaperones!  If you haven’t signed up to help out or have time to give in one of the areas that are open, pleeeeeeeeeeeeze sign up!   Thank you!  P.S. if the 7th grade parents don’t come through, we could always enlist the help of 6th or 8th grade parents.  Help where you can.

Sincerely, Mrs. A (That’s Mr. Norwood in the picture!  He screams like a girl when he stresses out.)

Parent Letter Sent Home 8/16

Singing Heads

Dear Choir Parents,                                                                                                                             8/16/16

We have gotten off to a great start this year.  At least 90% of the choir commitment and volunteer forms were turned in.  Thank you so much!  If we didn’t receive the blue and gold forms back from you we will give you a call this weekend to see what has happened to them.

Many of you have taken the time to go the nmschoir.org website to “follow” our postings.  This will help you so much this year.  If you haven’t had time to do this it is very simple.  Just go to the website, look in the right corner and enter your email address.  Then, push “Follow”.  An email will be sent to you to confirm.  Once you confirm the email you will be receiving everything we send home directly to your mailbox.  No more frustrations with hearing the night before “oh, we have a concert tomorrow!”

The use of Sign Up Genius on the website has been so helpful to us.  We are currently taking the handwritten volunteer forms and adding them to those who registered on line. We should have a final list of this year’s volunteers in about a week.  A final copy will be posted on the website and reminders will be sent to you a few weeks before your help will be needed.

The last order of business to have this year up and running is the annual Green Carpet Gala.  This is hosted by the Northridge High School Choral Department next Tuesday night in their auditorium at 7:00 p.m.  We really don’t hold meetings throughout the year for our parents because our activities are not as complex as the high school choir’s schedule.  But, we do ask parents to join us for this one meeting.  During the meeting a general introduction to the choral programs at NHS and NMS is given and then parents divide up so that we can focus on Middle School needs while they focus on their high school needs.  In our smaller meeting we discuss what is needed from our volunteers, financial concerns, decisions that affect parents such as after school activities, fundraising, and behind the scenes set and stage work. Mr. Norwood will also meet with all of the new Knight Light Show Choir parents to discuss costuming, fees, and rehearsal schedules. The biggest topic to cover will be the Annual Swing Fry Fundraiser and Concert day information.  All of our choirs perform their first time for this big community event.  This huge dinner & show requires a lot of hands to pull off successfully.  Packets will be handed out for all choir parents including ticket order forms, bake sale donations, silent auction donations, volunteer positions, and advertising.

The Green Carpet Gala meeting lasts less than an hour, but it is much easier to explain things for our parents when we meet in person.  You may also ask any questions you have about the things we are doing in the NMS Choral Program.

Thank you parents for sharing your children with us.  We are enjoying them so much!  This will be a fun year filled with learning, laughter, and SINGING!

Sincerely, Mrs. Armington and Mr. Norwood
