From the HS Directors – A SwingFry Update for All Choir Parents

note-from-director-2     Hello everyone! We are still in need of volunteers for the Swing Fry on November 5th. Without the parents and friends of the choirs help, we can not run the Swing Fry as well as it needs to be run. If you have already signed up, thank you. If you have not, please sign up for a shift or two, share the link with your parents, neighbors and friends. This is an easy 2 hour shift on a Saturday that is a TON of fun!!! Not only is this a great time to support the choirs, but it is one of our largest fundraisers of the year! If we did not have Swing Fry, everyone’s Choir Fees would have to go up AT LEAST $65.25. So please sign up below today!!!

Cross-Eyed Sailor Sol….Quartet

66946

The problem with having so many talented students in our choirs is it becomes even more difficult during solo auditions to choose just one.:( And so we made it a quartet because I couldn’t choose just one. Congratulations to Josiah Cross, Caden Mack, Drew Stahly, and Noah Sties who will be our singing of the woes of a slightly-off vision seafarer in our combined number “The Ballad of the Cross-Eyed Sailor”. Hope to see you all there Monday evening! It’s going to be fantastic!!

Just the Guys….and…

These are some of the cool locker decorations our choir moms made for our guys.  JUST THE GUYS CONCERT is Monday!!!  ohhhh myyyyy…..you are not going to want to miss this show…..you should have seen our young men as they rehearsed (all 110) this week!  I thought their eyes were going to pop out!  They couldn’t believe what they sounded like!  You won’t believe it either!!!  Monday night the NHS Auditorium doors will open at 7:10 p.m. Free…but worth so much more.  (FYI park in the back of NHS by the pool- enter door 15.)

6th graders had a blast skating and so did we!   Thanks mom’s and dads for letting them come.  Pictures are on Facebook!

Swingfry updates:

Monday is your last day to get Swing Fry advance tickets.  Please send in your ticket order form (and payment) by noon on Monday.  Time is running out.  Git’r done.

Word of advice from (Grand)Mama Armington:  don’t wait much longer to find your child’s choir black and white outfit.  Every year the stores sell out and parents are running to Granger to find something.  We do collect “like new”  hand me downs.  If you would like to donate clothes or have your child hunt through our collection just let us know!

Finally, a note to our choir kids:  Look at all the things your parents are doing for YOU.  Don’t forget to say thank you!

Parent Letter for September 30, 2016

News just in!  We have just received the details for the JUST THE GUYS Concert, Monday, October 17th from the high school directors.  We want to pass this on to all of you so that you can make plans for this amazing show.

First, this is a free concert!

Secondly, the only performers…yes, you guessed it…are “just the guys”.    Girls are encouraged to come and support our gents, but it is not required.  They will receive a FREEBIE pass if they do attend this concert.  Mr. N and I will be passing those out after the program in the lobby.

Now, for our star performers – here is the schedule:img_0155

Just the Guys Details

5:45pm – NMS Guys will meet in the high school choir room. Rehearse: “Ballad of the Cross Eyed Sailor”

6:00pm – Pizza Served (dinner for NMS and NHS performers in the NHS cafeteria) – no charge.

6:30pm – MS/HS Mass Choir Staging/Rehearsal

7:10pm – Doors open for audience to enter

7:10-7:25pm – High school guys get dressed.  NMS Guys rehearse in choir room and put ties on.

7:30pm – Show Begins

8:15 – 8:30 Show is over.  Parents pick up their son in the auditorium lobby.

Our boys will need to wear their concert attire for the year.  This is listed in the choir handbook.  Basically the boys need black dress pants, black shoes (t shoes are o.k.), black socks, and a long sleeve white dress shirt.  The boys will receive a choir clip on dress tie during rehearsal before the show.  Their shirt will need a collar.

This is a must see concert!  Clear your schedule, and invite everyone you know!

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                            Mrs. Armington

SwingFry Ticket Orders…

Advanced Ticket Orders for SwingFry 2016 are due in a few weeks.  Why should you order them in advance?  a.) There are 3000+ people coming, and the lines are long!  b.  It helps us know how much fish and chicken to order.

Here is an extra copy of the order form if you need one!  Click:  sfadvance-ticket-form-2016    Please make these checks payable to MMPA.  Send them in with your child and we will get your orders filled.  Within a week or two your child will receive a sealed envelope with your tickets and wrist bands enclosed.  Please remember this is our one and only fundraiser!   Invite your friends, relatives, neighbors, and push this at work o.k.?  The dinner is great, and the entertainment is to die for!

Fun Nights…or sleepless nights?

Dear Choir Parents,                                                                                                   September 20, 2016

Our kids are really doing an outstanding job in choir this year.  We would really like to spend some time with them outside of the choir class setting so that we can get to know their zany side and they can get to know that we have a sane side.  J  It is often hard to get to know kids when you face 70 – 100 in each class.  So, we have come up with a few activities that would be an award for their great work, and also a chance for us to have time with them out of class.

The following activities are now on the official Choral calendar.  They are only for choir students, and only for students who are receiving an A or B in choir class at the end of the 9 weeks.  Students who are causing discipline issues in choir may be excused from their FUN NIGHT if we do not see improvement right away!  This is definitely not a mandatory date.  Only students who want to come should attend!

6th Graders will be having a “GLOW-IN” Skate at Eby Pines Roller Rink on Tuesday, October 11th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.  The cost is $3 per person skating, to help cover the expense of renting the roller rink.  Skates will be free.  We will be skating in black light, so students may want to wear neon or white that evening.  Mr. Norwood and I will be hosting this event, but parents are welcome to join us.  We do ask that only choir students skate that night.  If you need to bring little ones with you, we would prefer that they do not skate.  Parents are welcome to skate!  The concession stand will be open.  Students may want to bring money in for a snack or pop.  We will also sell some glow stick jewelry in class on Monday and Tuesday that week in case students want to put some “BLING” on!   Parents should pick their child up at 7:30 p.m.

pizza

7th Graders will be having a pizza n- movie party on Thursday, October 13th after school from 3:45 – 6:30 p.m.  The cost is $3 to help cover the expense of the pizza, movie, and games.  Our choir kids will be partying with us after school, playing a few nutty games, having dinner, and watching a movie.  The movie is being voted on by our kids, but we will send the title out as soon as it is selected.  Parents may send in cookies or brownies for the kids’ dessert.   We have about 150 kids and expect around 100 or so.  Your help would be appreciated!

Graders will be having a “lock – in” here at NMS on Friday, October 28.  This would run Friday night from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.   The girls are interested in spending the night…yes the whole night….in the school.   Obviously the boys would have to go home by 10 p.m.  If I (Mrs. A) commit to spending an entire night with my girls, I have to have help.  I will need 5 moms to work with me.  We have a ton of activities planned and some very sweet girls to work with, so it will be a fun and memorable night, but I just can’t do this one on my own. So, if you are willing to volunteer please send me an email by August 31st.   If we don’t have volunteers (which I will totally understand) we will go to plan B.  Plan B will be 7 – 10 p.m.  with boys and girls together. (Cost is $3 for 7 p.m. – 10 p.m., Cost is $5 for 7 p.m. – 8 a.m.)

Sincerely,

Mrs. Armington and Mr. Norwood……

A few “notes” of interest…

At the Music Parents meeting Tuesday a few tidbits were discussed that I wanted to pass on to our choir parents.

First:

Support our Northridge High School Choral Program! On Saturday, 9-17-16, the Middlebury Music Parent Association is organizing an garage sales being held in the cafeteria of the high school. It will be from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm. Enter on the south east side of the building at door 15. All proceeds will go to benefit the choral program at the high school. There will also be pork burgers for sale in the parking lot.

Also, if you have been meaning to clean out your basement or closets, we are also accepting donations for the garage sale. Donations can be dropped off at the high school entering at door 15 on Friday, 9-16-16 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Second:  If you haven’t signed up to volunteer yet for the Swing Fry Fundraiser and Concert day, they let us know that if you volunteer to usher that day, you will definitely get to see your child perform, as well as a lot of other fantastic groups.  Go to the signup genius tab at the top of this page, click and then click on the fishy to sign up!
Finally, if you have a son in choir this year, please check your family calendar for October 17th.  The Just The Guys concert is that Monday night and we would love every young man to be a part of this amazing show.  If you have a conflict, ask your son to turn in a conflict form by next Thursday (September 29th) so that they can receive the excused absence, and the make up essay assignment.
Enjoy your weekend!  Sincerely, Mrs. A

SwingFry Performance Times

Dear Choir Parents,                                                                                                       September 6, 2016

Many of you are signing up for the SwingFry volunteer positions.  THANK YOU!  We want to remind you of a few things to remember as you sign up for a time slot.  First, make sure you don’t sign up to help when your child is scheduled to sing.  Below is the list of performance times for that day.  (Please notice that the boys will sing a second time during the “Just the Guys” set at 4:40 p.m.)

Secondly, it is important for our Middle School Choir parents to cover the later shifts so that the high school parents can see their kids perform.

Finally, don’t forget to use Signup Genius to sign up for your slot.  It is easy!  Click on the Signup Genius Tab right here on this website, scroll down until you find the Fishy and click!  Then before your very eyes you will see all of the choices, times, and locations volunteers are needed.  Reminders and need to know information will come directly to your inbox!

Thanks again, for helping support our choirs.  Sincerely, Mrs. Armington…no pictures this time!! 🙂
